EMPHASIS – Euro-Mediterranean Network Facilitating Market Uptake of Innovations from SMEsaims at integrating experiences to deploy, validate and mainstream an open innovation system that supports SMEs to exploit innovations that tackle sustainability challenges and turn them into business opportunities through external cross-border partnerships at EUROMED.
EMPHASIS will experiment with novel collaborative models of innovation, building a vibrant community of OI actors and stimulate and support open, regional and cross-border innovation
The specific objectives of the project are:
⦁ Design & setup of an Open Innovation Network, offering integrated innovation support services, validating OI Opportunities & fostering cross border partnerships that will enhance uptake of external knowledge that can turn sustainability priorities into tangible business opportunities for growth.
⦁ Increase capacities of SMEs to innovate and their readiness to engage with Innovation Partners by building cross-border partnerships (OI projects) with external entities and turning external knowledge into new products, services and business opportunities.
⦁ Validate the EMPHASIS Open Innovation approach and engage policy makers and stakeholders contributing to its mainstreaming. Disseminate the results across the institutional network and support building a vibrant community of OI actors that stimulate cross-border innovation with sustainability focus.
The expected results of the project are:
-1 EMPHASIS EUROMED Open Innovation Network established
– 80+ SMEs/ startups/ spin-offs’ needs and solutions curated
– 24 SMEs/ startups/ spin-offs received a customized Innovation Audit Report
– 24 SMEs/ startups/ spin-offs received coaching and mentoring support services
– 24 SMEs/ startups/ spin-offs received training seminars
– 24 SMEs/ startups/ spin-offs were served with Twinning activities
– 24 SMEs/ startups/ spin-offs received Brokerage Services
– 1 Euromediterranean Open Innovation Network Handbook was developed
– 1 Roadmap for mainstreaming EMPHASIS approach/ policy adoption was developed
– 1 Roadmap for Operational uptake of EMPHASIS was developed
Science and Technology Park of Sicily is the EMPHASIS partner of Italy. Lead Partner of EMPHASIS is a Greece KiNNO , responsible for the management and overall coordination of the project.
Science and Technology Park of Sicily will be actively involved in all project activities to support SMEs to exploit innovations that tackle sustainability challenges and turn them into business opportunities and will closely collaborate and fully support the EMPHASIS partnership for the implementation of the project.

⦁ Adaptation of Existing OI Tools to support SMEs’ scouting
⦁ Adapting Existing Services and Developing New Ones to support SMEs in crossborder
The project has a total budget of 818.689,39€, 90% of which is funded directly by the European Union, through the capitalization call of ENI CBC MED Programme

EMPHASIS – Rete Euro-Mediterranea Facilitare l’adozione da parte del mercato delle innovazioni da parte delle PMI mira all’integrazione di esperienze per implementare, convalidare e integrare un sistema di innovazione aperto che supporti le PMI a sfruttare le innovazioni che affrontano le sfide della sostenibilità e trasformarle in opportunità commerciali attraverso partenariati transfrontalieri esterni presso EUROMED .
EMPHASIS sperimenterà nuovi modelli collaborativi di innovazione, costruendo una vivace comunità di attori OI e stimolerà e sosterrà l’innovazione aperta, regionale e transfrontaliera
Gli obiettivi specifici del progetto sono:
• Progettazione e configurazione di un Open Innovation Network, che offre servizi integrati di supporto all’innovazione, convalida le opportunità OI e promuove partenariati transfrontalieri che miglioreranno l’assorbimento di conoscenze esterne che possono trasformare le priorità di sostenibilità in opportunità commerciali tangibili per la crescita.
• Aumentare le capacità delle PMI di innovare e la loro disponibilità a impegnarsi con i partner dell’innovazione costruendo partenariati transfrontalieri (progetti OI) con entità esterne e trasformando la conoscenza esterna in nuovi prodotti, servizi e opportunità commerciali.
• Convalidare l’approccio di EMPHASIS Open Innovation e coinvolgere i responsabili delle politiche e le parti interessate contribuendo alla sua integrazione. Diffondere i risultati attraverso la rete istituzionale e sostenere la creazione di una vivace comunità di attori OI che stimolino l’innovazione transfrontaliera con un focus sulla sostenibilità.

⦁ 24 PMI/startup/spin-off riceveranno un Rapporto di Audit dell’Innovazione personalizzato
⦁ 24 PMI/startup/spin-off riceveranno servizi di coaching e mentoring
⦁ 24 PMI/startup/spin-off usufruiranno di seminari di formazione
⦁ 24 PMI/start-up/spin-off riceveranno servizi per attività di gemellaggio
⦁ 24 PMI/start-off/spin-off riceveranno servizi di intermediazione
⦁ Sviluppare 1 Manuale Euromediterraneo Open Innovation Network
⦁ Sviluppare Roadmap per l’integrazione dell’approccio/adozione di politiche EMPHASIS
⦁ Sviluppare Roadmap di marcia per l’adozione operativa di EMPHASIS
Il Parco Scientifico e Tecnologico della Sicilia è il partner EMPHASIS dell’Italia. Il partner principale di EMPHASIS è un KiNNO greco, responsabile della gestione e del coordinamento generale del progetto.
Il Parco Scientifico e Tecnologico della Sicilia sarà attivamente coinvolto in tutte le attività del progetto per supportare le PMI a sfruttare le innovazioni che affrontano le sfide della sostenibilità e le trasformano in opportunità di business e collaborerà strettamente e supporterà pienamente la partnership EMPHASIS per l’attuazione del progetto.
