The “Belt & Road Initiative” is a massive transport infrastructure investment program
aimed at creating the so-called “New Silk Roads” and at developing and enhancing EuroAsian trade. Flag of the Chinese government since 2013, the project’s prospects are strongly
influenced by the evolution of international politics.

Without considering the geopolitical issues, the increase in Eurasian trade is a matter of fact, due to the structural change of the international specialization model, and the Euro-Mediterranean region is obviously central to maritime routes. Production systems, industries, innovation operators must evaluate this perspective to seize the opportunities for growth and development. The goal of our workshop is to offer EMPHASIS partners, universities, public and private stakeholders a space for
discussion to evaluate this infrastructure project. We will discuss the opportunities it offers to
Mediterranean countries (and in particular to the Messina Strait area) and to not only
commercial but also tourist routes.

La “Belt & Road Initiative” è un massiccio programma di investimenti infrastrutturali di
trasporto miranti a realizzare le cosiddette “Nuove Vie della Seta”, con l’intento di sviluppare
e potenziare l’interscambio euro-asiatico. Bandiera del governo cinese dal 2013, le prospettive
di realizzazione del progetto sono fortemente influenzate dall’evoluzione delle tensioni e degli
equilibri internazionali.

Indipendentemente dalle questioni geopolitiche, l’incremento dell’interscambio euroasiatico è un fatto immodificabile, legato al mutamento strutturale del modello di specializzazione produttivo internazionale, e la regione Euro-mediterranea ha una ovvia centralità funzionale nelle rotte marittime. I sistemi produttivi, le industrie, gli operatori dell’innovazione devono misurarsi con questa prospettiva per coglierne le opportunità di crescita e sviluppo.

 Obiettivo del workshop

L’obiettivo del nostro workshop è offrire ai partner
EMPHASIS, alle Università, ai soggetti pubblici e privati interessati un confronto con questo
progetto di infrastrutturazione, una discussione per valutazione delle opportunità che esso
offre ai Paesi Mediterranei, un approfondimento sull’area dello Stretto e sulle rotte non solo
commerciali, ma anche turistiche.
